Edit Sound

The edit sound page is where you go to fine tune an UltraWave sound.

The information below outlines the functions that are common to the five edit panels. Each panel is described in more detail on its own help page:

Launching Sound Edit

To access the edit sound page, click the Sound button in the UltraWave Oscillator:

Or click the Edit button from the UltraWave map page:

Top of page

  • Synth click this to return to the main synth view.
  • UltraWave map takes you to the UltraWave Map.
  • Sound name dropdown menu if there is more than one sound in the map, you can use this dropdown to select the Sound to edit.
  • Arrow buttons move to the next or previous Sound in the map.
  • Solo button when using Sound edit and playing your MIDI keyboard, you probably want to hear the focused Sound only, and not the Sound in the map closest to the played note. Solo mode allows you to hear only the Sound you are looking at.

Heading bar

  • Sound name - click the name to edit it.
  • Root note the note position of the sound in the map
  • Velocity the vertical velocity position of the sound in the map
  • Map overview a small graph showing all of the sounds in the map, with the current sound highlighted
  • Volume knob a sound can have an overall volume, controlled by this knob
  • Length knob a sound has a nominal playback length. In automatic playback mode, this length controls the amount of time it takes for the playhead to move through the cycles, pitch and amp curves. Adjusting the length won't change the cycles or curves, it will just change the time it takes to move through them. Click the length dropdown to show a popup menu that lets you extend or crop the sound.
  • Crop if you select a range in the graph, this button will delete all data before and after the range, leaving you with a sound based on the data in the selection.
  • Remove if you select a range in the graph, this button will delete all data in the range, leaving you with a sound based on the data outside the selection.
  • Make sound stereo / mono converts the sound to a single or 2 channel sound

Sound length popup

Clicking the sound length dropdown brings up this popup.

You can manually enter a time in the text box.

  • Set length only will set the length as described in the previous section
  • Crop or extend if the value entered is larger than the current length, empty space will be added to the end of the sound. If smaller, the sound will be shortened and any cycle and pitch / amp data after the end will be removed.

Edit tabs

Click these tabs to show a panel that allows fine tuning of the various aspects of the sound: Attack, Cycles, Pitch Curve, Amp Curve and Import WAV.

Engine preview graph

The bottom of all sound edit pages shows the engine preview graph.

This is a rendered representation of the sound that the engine will produce for the current sound.

The green section shows the attack sample, if any.

The blue section shows the wavetable body, as calculated using the cycles, pitch curve and amp curve.

Adjusting the data for the sound will update the graph.

The play button will play a preview of the sound through the engine, using the root note and velocity.
